Retired/Updated: (No) chew batteries if you don't

My issue with this product (battery drain on standby/shutdown) seems to be resolved. My initial 2 star review is below and was written after a company representative emailed me that the battery would die for several weeks if "off" is normal. A later check with another representative resulted in a new unit being sent to me. This device works much better. It has been 7 weeks with the device being "off" most of the time and the battery indicator still showing "fully charged". Good product - would recommend. Original review: What I like about this radio: Solid construction. The controls are easier than my old Sangean. Sound and reception are okay for a portable device. What I don't like about this radio: consumes too much power when switched off. Fresh Ducellas last less than 3 weeks with the radio off. A company support rep told me (essentially) that this is expected performance. This might not be a big problem if you use it frequently. I don't and it drains batteries much quicker than my old Sangean. Of course, I can take out the batteries when I put them in the drawer. I didn't have to do that with the old Sangean and the batteries lasted many months. UPDATE: Another company service representative told me that the battery drain I was experiencing was not normal and sent me a replacement unit. This was handled well. I have a new device and am checking the battery life. I will update this review with the results as soon as I have them.
