What, where and why about KVM switches allows you to manage up to 4 computers with one (or two) monitors and 1 keyboard. To set up a switch, connect 4 or fewer computers to the switch. The monitor outputs connect to the ports on the back of the KVM switch, the keyboard and mouse inputs also connect, and so on. You may need special cables for all connections. The computers and switch are powered on, and if everything is properly connected, you should be able to switch between different computers simply by pressing the 1, 2, 3, or 4 button on the KVM switch. The uses I'm familiar with are music production and video playback. In the case of a music production where you may need to place two monitors side by side, you will need a two head category switcher. Another model, the Avocent 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch with 2 standard HDMI ports, supports microphone inputs, while some other models do not. type with screws on both sides to keep them connected - thumbs up) and the old round keyboard and mouse connection style (not USB), you can choose this switch type to avoid problems with incompatible cables. I'll update later as I learn more and fix bugs. I'm not very tech savvy so I'll try to explain it to the buyer without getting too technical.
