I love half cubes because I don't lose anything on the ground and the cubes seem pretty strong when they are together. really only assembly without tools if you are an octopus. Prepare to have an extra pair of hands to help you balance the pieces as you put them together. And follow the quality control. If you don't have a drill press and grinder, or at least have a desire to smash them, you may have to return the pair due to assembly issues, even if you follow the very simple instructions closely. The holes are definitely not aligned as precisely as they should. 3 out of 4 of my cubes came together fine with a little rubbing with a rubber mallet, but the fourth took about an hour and is clearly not square, which could be an issue on a larger build.
