I had a terrible time trying to put them together. None of the holes match. It is almost impossible to insert the pins and at the same time not damage them. I literally had to stand on it to even come close to fully assembling it, and even then there were gaps. I gave it one more star than I wanted because although they look rough and damaged they are the right size for me so I will be keeping them. But wow, it looks like they could be designed a lot better.

So I ordered it despite the reviews that the holes didn't match. You're right. The holes are slightly offset and none of the parts are marked "A", "B", "C" as shown in the instructions. I was able to adjust my fit with a rubber mallet. This caused paint to peel off the edges of the box, but not too badly. If you plan to put them together to create a customized shelf, be aware that it will be very difficult to take them apart afterwards. So the design you have chosen is most likely glued to it.

I was thrilled when I found the 1/2 Cube Storage Box! This is the cheapest crap I've ever bought. First off, chipboard is junk - I wouldn't even call it chipboard. They gave up glue. And then painted white. Also, the pre-drilled holes didn't match up either, so I couldn't even make it functional enough to start and then later stabilize and paint (which I would do to get a finished product). Save time and hassle with returns and simply buy another product.

As other reviewers have said, when assembling - line up properly, press part A into part B, etc - have a hammer handy! - it's a pain. The finished product is very good as advertised. I use drawers to store clothes, folders, modem/router, etc. around the house. The prices for a small number of these boxes are ridiculous so I bought them in bulk and am happy with the amount of things I can do with them. Manufacturers need to keep working on these small pluggable/combinable storage solutions!

Holes did not match pins! When they are put together, they cause cracks and damage to the outside of the cube. There were also some holes that were too short for the pins. When the edges came together flush, it caused damage to the cube where the pins went in too far. I bought 6 of these for extra storage in my child's room so they still work for that purpose but I'm disappointed as it wasn't exactly a cheap purchase either due to poor manufacturing or the damaged product after assembly…

Read the reviews, really. I've seen several 3 star reviews mentioning the staggered holes on some units and that despite the 'tool free' design a rubber mallet is REQUIRED for assembly. I still took the risk. This adventure did not pay off. None of the side pieces fit either the top or bottom board no matter how I flipped or rotated them. I love half cubes because I don't lose anything on the ground and the cubes seem pretty strong when they are together. really only assembly without tools if you are an octopus. Prepare to have an extra pair of hands to help you balance the pieces as you put them together. And follow the quality control. If you don't have a drill press and grinder, or at least have a desire to smash them, you may have to return the pair due to assembly issues, even if you follow the very simple instructions…
