If you're looking for a top-notch DVD player for an in-depth study of picture and sound, well I wonder why you're looking for a $30 DVD -Player first. You get what you pay for and in this case I feel like you get more than that. This player produces a very nice, bright, clear picture with good contrast and deep blacks. The sound is clear and nuanced. It's everything you could want and then AT THE PRICE. In addition, the player is resistant to scratches and stains on discs. The discs that play on it didn't play on the last two (more expensive) DVD players I had. My only complaint is that the ability to reverse or advance the screen at different speeds is available using the same buttons you use to move from chapter to chapter. You have to press hard to see the option appear on screen, and it's all too easy to get it wrong and end up in the next or previous scene/chapter. Plus, it's a bargain, and not just as a kid's gamer.
