I've seen some reviews that it turns your computer off but won't turn it back on. This may be the reason. The device is powered by a 5V bus on the USB port. Some motherboards may disable power to these ports when the system is off. You need to go into the BIOS and see if you have the Wake on USB option. Enable this feature to save USB power. You might still not be able to turn on due to the cold, but you should be able to turn on from sleep mode. After changing this setting, mine works both cold and while sleeping. I have an odd setup, my office is my chair and I have a mobile cart with two monitors and a keyboard tray that I roll out in front of it. My tower is about 3 feet from me. Now I can turn the power on and off without getting up from my chair. Works great, but it ties up the USB ports (two if you use a motherboard connector and one if you use a USB cable and run it through the outside of the case), but I have plenty of those.
