VQ4100 QUEST Local channels explained in test.

SUPER! I was so tired of setting up my tripod dish and then putting it all away while I was camping. So I chose the King Quest to make my setups a breeze. With this dish I get all my programs including my local channels. Setup is now a breeze. Just place the portable dish outside facing the satellites, turn everything on and BAM! In a few minutes you have television. Admittedly I lost the HD programming but I can live with that in my RV. It's not the manufacturer of these dishes' fault for the HD loss, it's the way DirecTV delivers its signal. If you must have HD with DirectTV, you must purchase a Winegard Traveler, which costs over a grand more than this dish, and it must be permanently mounted on the roof of your RV. There are a lot of trees where I camp and being limited to a fixed dish was something I wasn't willing to do. You can use this model with a Dish network, but you'll have to buy the King UC1000 universal controller for less than a hundred dollars. I want to explain something about local channels so you can understand why some people get them and some people don't. If you go to your google calculator and search the internet you will find a list of local channels that are on the 101 satellite and local channels that are on the 119 satellite. It seems, that most larger markets are 101 while smaller markets are 119. So it would be very important to check in advance which satellite your locals are on. If your locals are on the 101 satellite, you don't need to buy anything, if they are on the 119, you need to buy the King UC1000 universal controller to reach your locals. With the UC1000, the dish can use both the 101 and 119 satellites. I hope this helps you understand the local programs and maybe you don't need to spend the hours of research I did before purchasing the King Quest. In addition to the locals of larger markets, the 101 satellite offers channels 100 to 400 and 500 to 800. This includes the premium movie channels like HBO and Showtime. The 119 has locals from smaller markets and canals in the 400s and a few others. So if you like me, you don't need any of the channels in the 400s. So since my locals are on the 101 satellite, I absolutely don't need the ability to get the 119 satellite. If you wish to change your provider to Dish Network, you will need to purchase the UC1000. However, if you choose Dish you also get all HD programming from my satellite providers.I couldn't be happier with my purchase! You need the UC1000.
