Review on πŸ“€ Sony BDPS6200 3D Blu-ray Player - Wi-Fi Enabled with 4K Upscaling (2014 Model) by Balakrishna Monzon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Outstanding, feature-rich, superb image quality; Maximum performance requires raw power and a constant internet connection

I had the freezing problem described in the one star reviews. I sent a replacement block back to Revain and it had freezes as well. Since I have some technical experience, I took it upon myself to see if I could fix the issues. The Sony S6200 is the only device with specs and features available in this price range. In addition, the picture quality was excellent. It played the latest Blu-ray discs and has a very user-friendly interface that gives you quick access to many features including the very handy Miracast feature that mirrors smartphone screens on your TV screen. In my case, the Wi-Fi signal from my Verizon router had to travel some distance through walls, and the signal strength tended to vary wildly. I have also noticed that our electricity suffers from short-term fluctuations. The new LED bulbs I installed in our kitchen flicker heavily. My solution to the problems is to install a MoCA WiFi extender and battery backup. After installing these two items, I had no more freezes and excellent performance from the Sony Bluray player. Verizon sells an Actiontec Wi-Fi extender that plugs into the same coaxial cable as the set-top box. The same extender is sold at Revain. The installation is very easy. A coaxial cable is unscrewed from the back of the set-top box and a splitter is placed so that one output goes to the set-top box and the other to the WiFi extension cable. The extension comes with a splitter and two short coaxial cables. The extension cable has two RJ45 connectors. I was able to run two short Category 5 cables from the extender to my Sony Bluray and Samsung LED TV. Both Bluray and TV quickly conquered the internet. You need to re-enter the security codes which are the same for the main router. Here is a link to the extension http://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-Dual-Band-Wireless-Extender-WCB3000N01/dp/B00FKTMWDE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1416186927&sr=8-5&keywords=Actiontec+MoCA Die The UPS I chose was an APC BE750G, which is a bit oversized for my workload. I run TV, Blu-ray and set top box on backup batteries.
