I've had these rugs for a long time and I really like that they don't allow dirt to spread. However, as of tonight, I've never dealt with cat urine outside of the litter box and I'm not impressed with how the mats handled it. My cat didn't even urinate outside of the litter box itself, instead chasing urine-soaked litter clumps outside of the litter box and the mat soaked up the urine like a sponge. I've washed carpets before, but that was just to wash away the dusty dirt. The material is a foam rubber that seems to absorb liquid, so I don't see a way to 100% effectively clean cat urine. Maybe if I soaked/cleaned it well and maybe used an enzymatic cleaner. But I just threw it in the trash because it's more trouble than it's worth, so I'd rather just buy a better trash mat. To be honest although it does prevent dust from spreading I wouldn't recommend it to a friend unless you are ok with urine soaked rugs which you have to spend time and energy soaking and cleaning because if one Cat on it she pees once or even track urine outside the tray, it's messed up (in my opinion) .
