I use an Alorair Sentinel HD55 non-ducted dehumidifier in my finished basement. The device is solidly built, efficient, efficient and relatively quiet. At 48% relative humidity it works reliably with a 6-point hysteresis, switching on at 51% and off at 45%. The remote control, purchased separately and placed about 4 feet from the HD55 in still air, provides longer and more efficient duty cycles than I've achieved with the built-in humidistat. With the HD55 level and its clean filter, I measure 65 dB at three feet. . The sound is almost exclusively like rushing air. The compressor is audible but at a much lower and less noisy frequency than the Fridgidair and Tosot dryers I tried earlier this year and found unbearable. Overall, I find the Alorair HD55 to be of higher quality and more versatile. than any other desiccant I have used. UPDATE: Airway adapter removed from outlet and now measures 63dB at three feet. The sound signature is smoother with less noise. UPDATE: The scoreboard failed in the second week of use, although the device with remote control remained fully functional. Contacted Alorair via email and asked for a replacement board under warranty. Response was quick and friendly and the part arrived in a few days. Installation is easy, problem solved.
