You get what you pay for. In this case it's not the customer service

I give this product three stars because our PV-DV202 was a very good camera. until it stopped working. The quality of the video and even the photos was very good. Panasonic cameras are generally very user-friendly. Beware of Panasonic customer service. Its internet and phone contact system is notorious for not responding to requests for help, redirecting callers through a confusing phone tree to poorly synthesized voice messages, or waiting long hours to speak to a customer representative. If you want to repair a product that is out of warranty, your camera has actually become a very expensive door lock as the repair usually costs you more than a new camera. We found out the hard way. We are very happy with the camera for the two years of careful use we gave it away. Suddenly the cassette head failed and we learned the ugly truth about Panasonic, that they sell their cameras at a competitive price, thereby reducing after-sales service costs. However, if you are willing to take that risk or decide to purchase an extended camera warranty, Panasonic's customer service situation is not a problem for you.

Pros
  • 10x optical, 700x digital, image stabilized zoom
Cons
  • New competition has arrived
