The ballast died after years of use, which shouldn't have happened. I replaced the ballast with a new one from Revain (not difficult once you know the basic wiring). After examining the old ballast, I saw that the capacitor in it had swollen - a sure sign of using cheap parts. It's clear that this manufacturer uses inferior parts to increase profits at the expense of reliability. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this light, but if you're willing to replace the ballast in a year or two. Like I said, it's not that hard to do, but it's generally not necessary to do it on a hood that's only a few years old.
