For years I have kept 8TB USB as home/private cloud with a second 8TB as backup (not RAID backup). I run weekly periodic mirroring cycles. 8TB is almost full so I bought two more. Decided to put both old drives in this case as the primary and the new pair in original Seagate cases as a backup set (since new and under warranty didn't want to open the case to possibly empty it). It all took a week within 10 days until my Intel Compute Card dock got stuck in the BIOS. Did it as always: Power Cycle; check BIOS settings; Remove peripherals. Criminal? this body. Why? Because data disks were no longer partitioned and Microsoft did not perceive them as RAW. As a result either Intel POST or probably M$-Startup got stuck. Tools licensed by AOMEI and MiniTool *Technician* recognize GPT drives showing up as NTFS, although I formatted each one as exFat with 8k clusters. TestDisk could not be restored. SMART shows good disks. Hard drives were 70% and 40% full. Bitmap showed disks as 100% and 0%. Yes. Completely full and the other completely empty. Since GPT has no applicable MBR tools. Luckily this is just the copy my backup made. After 14 hours my data is safe on fpur drives in OEM cases and this beautiful case is boxed for return. I believe the error occurred during a manual reboot. I restarted my computer and the next day I saw an error. No OS updates will automatically restart. Once the USB controller stops communicating during POST, the enclosure powers off the drives and after a few moments they spin up. I imagine it's like throwing the starter on a car when the engine is off. Very bad for mechanics. No environmental problems (electromagnetic interference, electricity, etc.). It lived a short life in my clean room on an ESD mat and sourced from a pure sine wave UPS. The operating system was Win 10 Pro 1909 with an SSD license. Please be aware and DO NOT make this your only ride. Make sure you make reservations separately and manually. RAID does not help with corruption. They were installed by JBOD and still broke in tandem.
