Secure, secure, secure

This is a very nice box. The only problem I had wasn't the RAID, it was the installation. I moved two disks that were in another RAID to this one, they had a lot of data on them. when I inserted them, this data was deleted. However, before I did the transfer, I contacted OWC tech support and knew this was going to happen. I made a backup, no data was lost. A direct exchange would be nice. Technical Support OWC 5 stars.

These things fail Computers & Accessories

I bought about 8 of these HD aluminum cases from OWC. I retired all 8 due to reliability issues. Even if the block is set to "independent disks" it has a single disk problem, you can't just take it out and move on. Also, the switch on the back that selects the mode isn't set properly and shows an incorrect setting. Avoid this particular case. I have to say that OWC is otherwise a great company and I have many of their 2 and 4 bay dark gray cases that have been running for years with no…

Modern, flexible, external backup

Quiet and reliable. fits my Mac Pro 3.1. Easy installation of 2 Seagate 3TB drives also purchased from OWC. Tested different RAID configurations for speed differences: as advertised. .Very glad my data is now properly protected and has different RAID/Non-RAID options. Also boots from eSATA for independent configuration. Possibly due to the proposed EFI loading on the map. Will help me with my photography and video studies to continue my artistic career in painting and photography.

beautiful but unreliable

I can't pinpoint exactly what caused my problem but I've had these two 8TB drives with data in other cases for a year with no problems, them in this case and Two weeks later, filed in my file system beyond repair, I spent weeks using various recovery programs to recover my data as the drives were still working perfectly. I ended up losing data and had to make old copies from old backup drives and lost some stuff forever. The drives are now back in a different case and are working great. While I

Fan is loud and iMac doesn't recognize the drive

Although the device looks solid, the fan is loud, indicating it's cheap. My new 2017 iMac 5K Retina system does not recognize the drive. OWC Technical Support advised me to reset the P-RAM (Non-Volatile Memory) on my iMac, which seems to have helped. However, after disconnecting the case, turning off and turning on again, the computer again refused to recognize the drive. The only way to see the drive is to turn off the iMac, turn on the case, and then turn the iMac back on. Given the…

I wanted this drive, but,,,

I wanted to like this case, but it didn't work out. Inserting and removing the cover is very difficult as it is so tight. As long as it's doable, it doesn't bother me much since I don't change discs often. The fan isn't too loud, but a few hours after I first started it, it started making a loud, piercing hum. It was very annoying, but when I put it on its side it mostly went away. I could even live with that, but what I couldn't live with was the intermittent issue of the drive not spinning up

RAID 1 error on a new standard Dell computer running Windows 10

OWC usually has a good reputation for the quality of Apple centric products so I decided to give it a try as I have a 2 -Hard drives USB need drive. an attached RAID system that would allow me to use my own high quality drives. I tried this with two brand new expensive drives (which I tested separately when I had problems) and set the unit to RAID-1 following the instructions. RAID-1 seemed to work: I could see the drive in Windows, format it and write to it, and the size indicated it was…

Solid DAS for the price of

PROS: Really good quality product. Aluminum housing with very well thought-out hard disk mounting and cooling. The fan pulls air in and out and has kept the drives cool so far. I'm using two 4TB WD Red drives in Raid 1. I've experimented with the range and JBOD setting but obviously want the redundancy of RAID 1. Switching between modes is very easy and the drives set up quickly. Hard disk read and write speeds are basically the same as SATA. The bottleneck is clearly the hard drives, not the…

Destroyed Data. exFat --> RAW corrupted

For years I have kept 8TB USB as home/private cloud with a second 8TB as backup (not RAID backup). I run weekly periodic mirroring cycles. 8TB is almost full so I bought two more. Decided to put both old drives in this case as the primary and the new pair in original Seagate cases as a backup set (since new and under warranty didn't want to open the case to possibly empty it). It all took a week within 10 days until my Intel Compute Card dock got stuck in the BIOS. Did it as always: Power…
