Really works, unlike other

I embarked on a strange journey trying to find a way to connect my HDMI-only Alienware Alpha computer to my 27-inch 2560x1440 Apple LED Cinema Display. This display panel can only be powered via (mini) DisplayPort. I am sure that anyone looking at this product will find that it is very easy to find DisplayPort (source) to HDMI (display) converters but not vice versa like this device. This product (and any other video converter in general) is NOT bi-directional and does not convert DP -> HDMI. I convert HDMI -> DP beautifully. I first ordered another GoFanco(?) from Revain I think and it worked 2/10 times when I plugged it in. , returned, received, I am satisfied. Worked the first time, it doesn't seem to matter which end you plug in first and in my case it didn't even require an extra USB connection for power. may be required if the HDMI port cannot provide enough power to the converter. I used this passive DP > MiniDP adapter to connect to the monitor itself: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N3DTKY. It ran at a variety of resolutions, all at 60Hz: 1024x768, 1280x720p, 1920x1080p, and the Apple monitor's native resolution of 2560x1440. I'm not sure how much higher it is, maybe 4K if the HDMI hardware allows it. The conversion gives a perfectly clean image. FYI, this won't help you if you have a newer Apple Thunderbolt monitor. It's Thunderbolt only.

Pros
  • PLUG AND PLAY: This HDMI to DP converter requires no drivers or software and offers true plug and play technology. It's USB powered, eliminating the need for an external power cable, making it ideal for mobile professionals.
Cons
  • Crumpled
