not 1 inch but 27/32 inch (2.14 cm); slightly thicker than 1 mm. There are no fragments. Dark gray back. Beautiful copper color. All dirty (smeared and dusty) but very typical of these little craft mirrors. I have no doubt they will hold up - I use them as "ornaments" on windmill blades to reflect the sun.
