This is my first set of calipers so I can't compare to others I've used other than the laser set. I used once several times at work. It came with two batteries, only one of which needed to be installed; All you had to do was loosen the screw with the screwdriver provided, remove the cover and lower the battery with the positive pole facing up. The indications revived immediately. One thing I've noticed is that it seems to be somewhere between 0.007 and 0.008 more than any given expected value; I don't know if this is an internal problem, a calibration issue, a user error or anything in the world is really a bit bigger than expected. If I ever get my hands on sizing items down to submicron length, I'll know. I assume this will be an acceptable margin of error for most purposes, if any. I don't expect the case hinges to stand up to heavy use, but it's fixable. One thing I'm seriously concerned about is how the depth gauge sticks out when the wide end is used. It's a small, thin piece of metal with an edge, and I have to be very careful where it is so as not to hurt myself or other objects. I feel that better calipers could provide a way to prevent this part from being used when not in use. Otherwise I think I made a good choice here.
