I spent some time and resources trying to cover up my iPhone XR's weak-sounding built-in microphone for video recording. I first tried different adapters to convert a few different decent vocal mics to a lightning connection on my phone, but the phone refused to recognize any of them in any configuration. So I finally broke down and bought this Zoom iQ7 for about $100. However, on my phone's VCR, the sound from this mic is only slightly better than the built-in mic and has annoying background noise! It seems that using the audio only recording software that came with the mic the noise is gone and the sound quality is good, but my goal was video. Now I can either try the next level (a Shure model for about $150) or give up. I'm seriously considering the latter.
