You can use it while charging, but you have to literally hold the charging pad and controllers at the same time. The charging pad uses a micro USB cable and comes with a power bank, which I recommend as it offers the best charging times. The pads also have battery indicator lights. Red is charging, Green is fully charged. The pad accepts two controllers at the same time. All in all, this is a great product that gives you a rechargeable battery so you don't have to worry about swapping out two AA batteries.
