Cost and durability have not yet been determined, and the quality of the material affects the first two. I was able to connect to my Sony laptop purchased in 2009. I had to use a USB-C to USB3 adapter to connect to the printer. It worked! The printer seemed a little slower, but it's an old Cannon printer. My Dell Inspiron 5000 series (Windows 10) has a USB-C connection, but it doesn't recognize the drivers for the Cannon MG5420, so I have to use WiFi printing. The cable works with an old computer, so I'd say it works.
