Molex Mini Fit crimp jaws defective

If you want to assemble wires with Molex Mini Fit Jr ferrules, you should look elsewhere. The quick jaw change feature seemed tempting, but it doesn't crimp properly at all. I couldn't crimp a pin/socket successfully, not one crimp out of 20. I then went in search of the cause of the binding and was able to identify two faults. First, the jaws are powder coated, which bites into metal and usually pinches the metal in indeterminate places on the surface of the jaw. Combined with a second failure point, which is poor jaw tolerance, which could leave pinch points in unintended jaw gaps, resulting in crimp failure. If buying these crimpers is for something else then it might be worth the play.
