It's not a 'lamp' like you might think, but you'll be glad you bought it, especially if you're creative or a DIYer

I wrote a review of this the other day and my browser froze. In any case, realize that it's not a lamp. It's the electrical components that lamps use. As far as they go, the materials are absolutely superb and the craftsmanship is excellent. If I could, an illustration would give you the best idea of what you're getting and the use cases. If you had aa old lamp had sentimental value, if you could disassemble some of the core pieces, this would let you replace it with a safe, long lasting and energy efficient manner. If you were inclined to watching some of the new DIY remodelling shows that emphasize taking non-traditional things and repurposing them, this is like a dream come true as far as they go. In fact, we found out about this from a new interior decorator we hired who specializes in finding personally meaningful motifs or sentimental vestiges and repurposing them instead of simply point you to the most ultra-modern furnishings or trying to match historical pieces to build a look that's historically accurate and complete. And don't get me wrong, if that's what you were after, you could certainly use specific bulbs that looked like flames and build some pretty creative stuff with it.If you read my reviews, you'll see there's a particular brand of LED lights that allow for the entire ROYGBIV spectrum, are made to play well with home automation systems and have all sorts of other cool features. Well, my office is ostensibly as high tech looking as anything we could come up with. Our family room was recently redone after our last child left for college and my wife wanted a very romantic 'old South' look. It takes quite a bit to accomplish either but lighting, but direct and accent lighting played a critical role. This allowed me to build some really wild lamps that have Crytpo-currency tickers displayed vertically and had both lighting strips (which change colour based on volume) and bulbs which changed colour based on the direction of the price of the given currency being displayed. This is just one idea that popped into my head and it took some really simple components and LED lights to pull it off.On the other hand, the family room switches up going from traditional light to simulated flames depending on the time, the day (Fridays and Saturdays consistently flip to the faux flame look early) and while we have a some fairly sophisticated come automation, the voice-activated system made by the company who I'm writing this review for does a splendid job at making it all work.I'm not very adroit at much when it comes to electronics or tooling. I'm a data scientist and I can program but the building isn't my area. After working with the decorator and her showing up how to get started, the only real limiting factor was imagination and decided whether we wanted to take things we would have long away thrown out were it not for sentimental reasons vs buying a few controllers and putting the stuff together ourselves. If we still had high schoolers in the house, this is one perfect example of something I'd use to help teach them programming by making it fun and entertaining via showing them how 'cool' it could be.So yeah, whether your goal is to replace some old lamps, whether it's efficiency and safety or whether you're trying to build some real one of a kind stuff and win your HOA's 'coolest home award" (which we did) this is one component that can help you get there. I'm not pretending that it's all it'll take you, but it's an easy and inexpensive way to start, you can start with existing lamps that just need to be fixed to break your teeth and get better until you're confident to get creative, but trust me, especially at this price, you'll really love them. The only reason I gave them a 4 instead of a 5 is that I had no idea what I was getting into. I thought I was getting a lamp I could just plug in, add a bulb to and turn on. I know, the instructions said otherwise and I'm an idiot for not reading them, but I had never seen anything like this so I had no frame or reference. If the decorator was a traditional one or didn't know how to use these, it could have led to me giving up. But like all else wi them it all ended great and I highly recommend them. As soon as I can think of some new ideas of getting some stained glass or custom woodwork, I'll post some pictures of what was done and how inexpensively it was done.

Pros
  • 120 volts, medium (E26) base
Cons
  • The white pendant design may not provide enough visual interest for some users looking for a more unique fixture
