I bought this to split bandwidth between two laptops, a wireless printer, and a Roku (Netflix video streaming box that plugs into a TV) because I figured 802.11g wireless wasn't in would be able to handle all these requests. once. Also, the wired connections on this router are Gigabit Ethernet connections, so wired connections are just as fast as wireless ones. Remember I'm a computer scientist. This made the installation pretty easy for me. The router has a web interface with different tabs for configuring settings such as WiFi security, SSID, network type, etc. For less technical users, there is a wizard (for Windows) to help you set up your WiFi network. I haven't used it, so I can't comment on that. For proper security, I recommend turning off the SSID broadcast (which lets everyone know you have a wireless network) and setting up WPA2 security with a password. You may also need to enable "MAC Address Forwarding" in order for your wireless router to work with your ISP. After I updated the firmware to the latest version, the router works without a reboot for several weeks, the connection needs to be restored. I think the router stalled once in the 2 months I've had it. In terms of download speeds, I see over 600 KB/s with WPA2 encryption enabled. This is a nice improvement over my previous 802.11g router, which couldn't handle more than 100 kbps in the same environment. Keep in mind that the theoretical top speed is without encryption, with a network connection capable of supporting these download speeds, with a connected system. The connection is efficient, so the router is a solid piece of hardware that meets my needs at a very low price.
