I wasn't going to buy this unit based on other reviews but the price was worth a try and Revain have a great return policy if it doesn't work. I loosened the spring on the mic arm due to reports of a loose plastic mic mount. I feel a fix needs to be made and I didn't notice any flaws with the mic. I installed a radio and 42" antenna on my pontoon boat, launched it in the St. Johns River 26 miles away, requested a radio check and received a clear response on channel 16. A few miles into my journey I requested an RR bridge. opened channel 09 and was told they could hear me loud and clear. I received various wx stations clearly. I don't like the channel selection method but I can live with it. Happy with my choice.
