I am new to buying vintage oil lamps. I have two large lamps, both with vintage Eagle burners. Burners of this type do not have holes around the collar inside the chimney. I purchased this 7/8" wick which is easy to install and seems to fit perfectly. However, once a fully impregnated wick is lit, the flame shrinks. No matter where I place it under the top of the burner, it won't get bright flame but go out.I've read that you shouldn't turn on an oil lamp with a wick over the burner as it interferes with the combustion process and burns the wick itself as fuel, but I can't get a good flame without that.So I will looking into other wicks and maybe changing my burners to Queen Anne style as well I don't know if this is a quality or wick defect or some other reason I can't find anything specific to my problem by searching the internet.
