Just what I need for homemade IPA emergency lamps!

Exactly what I was looking for. I've used this to make my own glass mini spirits to replace the store-bought '100 hour emergency flashlights' that we use during winter power outages. They always burn so messy and uneven, leaving soot everywhere and a dirty feel/smell in the air. This wick, placed in vessels containing a mixture of alcohol and distilled water, burns evenly, safely, very cleanly and for a very long time.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Poor quality wick. look elsewhere

Very poor stitching on one side. The wick is asymmetrical, which makes it impossible to use. I tried it on two different Dietz vests. The wick lifter didn't work because the wick kept swirling inside. Works well with the original wicks. It's a bit sad that older or older wicks work better than these new ones. Terrible quality. I have ordered from this seller three times and each time I have had to return the wicks due to quality issues. look elsewhere

Pros
  • Regular price
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Best in test. - Oil Lamps

I tested several wicks and fuels in Feuerhand lanterns to see the difference in brightness, durability and smoke. These wicks worked best with all fuels and required the least trimming. They are the densest wicks I have tested. Let them soak a little longer first for best results. Work with all types of fuel; K-1 will always burn the brightest, but paraffin oil (flavorless liquid paraffin) will burn the brightest and will not smoke if the wick is properly adjusted.

Pros
  • Grand Prix
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

Goes perfectly with my 1850's oil lamp

I bought this wick for a flint glass oil lamp I found at an antique store. The lamp was completed with a burner and a chimney but no wick. This wick works well in a lamp. The only thing I noticed is that when the oil level in the font is about half full, the flame burns very little because I assume the wick can't carry enough oil to keep it going. I don't think this is the fault but rather the design of the lamp. It's elegant because of its thin profile, but because it's printed broadly ratherโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Update available

Not worth the time and money

I need to replace some oil lamp wicks. I collect antique oil lamps and use them when we have a power outage. I received this reel a few days ago and started swapping out my wicks. When I make this I always soak it, cut it, light it and let it burn for a bit so there are no nasty surprises when I need it. Well, that fuse blows fast, very fast! Then it smokes worse than I've ever seen, when you blow it they all smoke a little but it was crazy. I don't know if I can return it after using part ofโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Not bad but...

What happened? suitable for oil lamps

I am new to buying vintage oil lamps. I have two large lamps, both with vintage Eagle burners. Burners of this type do not have holes around the collar inside the chimney. I purchased this 7/8" wick which is easy to install and seems to fit perfectly. However, once a fully impregnated wick is lit, the flame shrinks. No matter where I place it under the top of the burner, it won't get bright flame but go out.I've read that you shouldn't turn on an oil lamp with a wick over the burner as itโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolutely brilliant!
Cons
  • Sad equipment
