This review is dedicated to the KORAMZI HDTV Digital TV Converter. I bought the box because our cable bills were increasing and we decided to shorten the cable. I had high hopes for this based on the reviews I read. It was easy to install and picked up 42 local channels from my small indoor HD antenna. The user interface is clunky and the remote control feels flimsy. The instruction manual was good in terms of explanations, but it was literally a tiny manual (in size) and the print was so small I almost needed a magnifying glass to read it. The screen shots in the manual were illegible. The software interface was reminiscent of the old VCR setup, with a slightly updated way to view days' worth of programs so you can see what's going on. You have to go to each channel to see what's on that day. I found out the price, I could endure the interface. It should be noted that it displays 24-hour military time and there is no way to change it. So if you're not used to using military time, you need to find out. From a tuner point of view I had no problem with that. The main thing was that I wanted to be able to record programs, otherwise I would just use the tuner on my television. On the front of the box there is a USB 2 port where you can connect an external hard drive. They recommend using an external drive rather than a flash drive. The drive must also have its own external power supply as the device will not work with a USB powered drive (it keeps trying to restart when plugged in). For my first recording, I set up the channel and time for a two-hour movie. When I came back to check the recording, I noticed that it had actually started recording an hour earlier and showed that it had been recorded for 3 hours. Records in MTS format, which is normal. You play the program using the player integrated in the box. I started recording and tried to fast forward the film. This will fast forward up to 32X. Unfortunately, it gets blocked when fast-forwarding and you have to pause it and start over. I had to do this about 4 times at different speeds to finally get to the movie. It played normally for about ten minutes, then the picture started to get blocky. Then completely invisible. I tried several recordings with the same results, so I decided to change the drive. I used a 500GB drive and a terabyte with the same results. I really wanted this to work, but unfortunately the record and playback functions didn't work properly. Sent back for a refund. so i decided to change the drive. I used a 500GB drive and a terabyte with the same results.
