Review on πŸ“Έ Wireless Color Portable Document Scanner Epson WorkForce ES-300W ADF for PC and Mac: Sheet-fed and Duplex Scanning by Tim Shah

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Great hardware, terrible software!

Installation: This scanner is extremely difficult to set up (MacOS Sierra) for use on a wireless network. I had to look for an application called EpsonNet Config that wasn't listed on the ES-300W support page and found it on an older model scanner. The only other setup option is to use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), which is a security risk and should be disabled on your router. OCR over the air. One of the great features of this scanner is the ABBYY software that gives excellent OCR results. However, ABBYY software cannot be used wirelessly. Epson has not yet released an ICA driver for these scanners. In wireless mode, the scanner does not show up in the Mac Image Capture application, so it doesn't show up in the ABBYY application. The scanner does not appear in the list of Apple devices for which macOS can automatically download software. If you search for older devices on Epson's support site, you will also find an offline "ICA" driver. There is currently no corresponding driver for the ES-X00 series available for download (on the Epson support site). This is very frustrating. It is not possible to use this scanner wirelessly with ABBYY software to get excellent OCR. ABBYY only works when connected via USB. In wireless mode, you are forced to fall back on the Epson software and its poor text recognition. When will Epson release a driver that offers the full functionality they promise?

Pros
  • Easy Installation
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging
