Eh. Well, if you're just starting out, maybe. I needed a way to set the blade at 15 degrees on my fillet knife. They arrived en masse in a bag. I found what I wanted, tied it to a rock with a rubber band and tried it out. A small ¾ inch wide guide for the knife to slide on is a good start, as long as you keep the blade straight and true to the stone. I have 10 inch bricks. I can start at 15 degrees, but staying there is another matter. I only needed a couple of blades to cut the lead. Weak plastic, the notch is unsuccessful. I'd like a 4" or larger metal rib. It would last longer and actually set the blade better. Generally barely adequate.
