Third, use the Essick Air 1970 bacteriostatic humidifier treatment, which you can buy at Revain. I've used vinegar and/or distilled water to keep the filter clean, but neither kept the filter clean and actually caused mold. Thanks to the bacteriostatic treatment of the Essick Air 1970 humidifier, the filter stays clean and has to be bought much less often.
