I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado z71 and my 4WD service light has been on for a month. I replaced the switch and it wasn't the problem so I ordered a transfer case module and it didn't fix the problem. I did some research and some suggested replacing the transfer case motor, but then I saw some people saying you can just replace the sensor. I took a chance as it was less than $50 and if it didn't solve the problem I would have bought the motor. It worked and the 4WD service light went out and my gear shifts fine again. I would suggest changing the sensor. I found a video and it took me hours just because I was having trouble aligning the teeth with the engine and transfer case. They must be precisely aligned. It is also important to order a gasket and replace the old one. Otherwise it was worth it!
