No more "Service 4WD " message

I get a "Service 4WD" message in hot weather, especially when driving at low speed. I hate changing parts but I couldn't read the code with my OBDII reader so I searched the internet. I checked the transfer case switch on the I/P and based on the youtube video found it ok. Under the conditions when I got the error message, the T-Body Position Sensor seemed like a reasonable culprit, so I ordered one. A little more work than replacing the T-body motor, but much cheaper and just as effective…

Good product! My issue has been resolved.

I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado z71 and my 4WD service light has been on for a month. I replaced the switch and it wasn't the problem so I ordered a transfer case module and it didn't fix the problem. I did some research and some suggested replacing the transfer case motor, but then I saw some people saying you can just replace the sensor. I took a chance as it was less than $50 and if it didn't solve the problem I would have bought the motor. It worked and the 4WD service light went out and my…

My problem solved! Big!

My 2005 Z71 Suburban would drop into neutral while driving and sometimes engage 4WD itself. I replaced the switch which still didn't fix the problem. Installed in a lift yesterday. I didn't remove the driveshaft or the exhaust as some online videos show. I managed to get a 15mm wrench on the bolt next to the driveshaft and after about 20 minutes I unscrewed it. Uses a 3/8 compact battery punch to loosen the other 2 screws. FOLLOW the instructions in the videos to align the gears and teeth when…

2004 Suburban 2500 - fixed missing 4 bolt shifter and T-hull

My burb wouldn't go into 4 bolt and found this after getting stuck. Then, accidentally on the track, the transfer case shifted itself into neutral. The gauges on the pushbutton selectors still said 2wd, but the engine just revved up until I shifted to another range. Switched to 2wd and everything was fine again. I've never had the "Service 4WD" light come on. When I first sat down I happened to notice that the knob selectors were in something other than 2WD, although I know I never chose 4hi or

Don't pay GM $100 for an incorrect repair

My local dealer charged nearly $700 for a "bad encoder motor" replacement procedure. Please read the MANY blogs easily found online by 4WD owners like you (including many great posts by GM techs) and they will tell you to open up the encoder motor and replace this electronic sensor, who is almost always the culprit. This $50-$70 part is all you need and you can find a YouTube video on how to install it. Most will advise you to lower the front drive shaft, but if you are patient you can lower it

2005 Tahoe Z71 for Parts

2005 Tahoe Z71. This solved my occasional problems with my 4WD. The first symptom appeared while driving on the road with 4WD when it shifted into neutral. I stopped and shifted all gears with no change. I was pretty sure that unless it fell out of the car the gearbox wouldn't behave that way when it's working. This helped me narrow the circle down to the transfer case. I noticed the light next to the 2 wheel button was off so I pushed the auto button and felt the transfer case engage. Drive on

Fixed "Service 4WD " Message (Code C0327)

Purchased this OEM encoder (ACDelco 88962315) to fix the "Service 4WD" message on a 2004 Z71 Suburban. (My code reader pulled out diagnostic code C0327). I followed the YouTube videos to remove the transfer case motor assembly and replace the encoder. Here are my tips: I jacked up the car using the front jacking points on the rail (greater access for under car storage). The front wheels still touched the ground. Fender removed (4 x 15mm cap screws). The transfer case motor is secured with 3…
