My 2005 Z71 Suburban would drop into neutral while driving and sometimes engage 4WD itself. I replaced the switch which still didn't fix the problem. Installed in a lift yesterday. I didn't remove the driveshaft or the exhaust as some online videos show. I managed to get a 15mm wrench on the bolt next to the driveshaft and after about 20 minutes I unscrewed it. Uses a 3/8 compact battery punch to loosen the other 2 screws. FOLLOW the instructions in the videos to align the gears and teeth when you open the case. Although my switch said it was in neutral when I took it apart, the markings didn't match. I marked the gears with a drawing pen and reinstalled them as they were. I pulled the four-wheel drive fuse, turned the key on and off, put it back in, and started the truck. I switched to 2WD with no problems. Now the system works great!
