They work exactly as described and are great for keeping at home. I don't recommend cleaning them, just throwing them away (but then again, I'm the kind of person who wouldn't weave a diaper because, to me, the definition of throwaway is what you're into). So yeah, I don't clean the hideous thing. She easily avoids the bend of the drain to clean it. We always keep at least one on hand and order when we use it. Very easy to use, just stick it in the drain, I usually twist it a little, then slowly pull it out, covered in all sorts of drain dirt.
