I would say that these briefs are a bit small. My son wears a size 12 so I took a size L but they are too tight for him. I would definitely go up a size if your child is a larger size. The material is light and seems to dry quickly. .There is a label sewn on the back of the waste that rubs the lower back/upper buttocks quite hard. I would try to carefully cut out the label.
