Review on Starrett 247D Micrometer Attachments Diameter by Todd Calloway

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to use and well made

I've had several of these but they appear to be that legs grow quite often. They are well made, steel and if you get the right size they fit just great and won't fall or slide off the anvil when in use. I recently bought a Fowler microphone imported from China. (which is actually a great tool.) and needed a bullet for it as I've mostly used large anvil Starrett models my whole life. This size is .256 so I figured this .250 would most likely fit because they have some safety margin. . Well, it's not enough to work. The recess under the clamping lugs is also a perfect fit, so the size should be pretty accurate. I was able to "rub" it successfully with a 1/4 "Norton wheel" which I dimpled at the end. worked fine and didn't hurt the ball. Another option most of these imported Mounting mics consists of looking for Mitutoyo rubber mics if you can find the right size, or looking for a Fowler that comes with a couple of balls in the tube (Insize may have one, too.) Starrett releases a metric 6 .8mm version of this mic which will work, but the bullet size is also exactly metric which causes problems when used with a 1" mic.
