Description of Starrett 247D Micrometer Attachments Diameter

Easily applied by snapping on to end of either anvil or spindle, thus permitting two attachments to be used together. Balls are hardened, measure 0.200" in diameter, and move freely in the retainer, insuring positive contact with anvil and spindle. The diameters, 0.200" of each ball used must be subtracted from the micrometer reading. Applied for Nos. 216, 231, 436.1, 733, 734, 1212 and 1230 micrometers, 0.250" diameter anvil and spindle.

Great Product - Accessory

Works great. You are strong. spring steel. If you break them, you will insult them. Make sure you order the right ones. Starrett microphones have different spindle diameters depending on the model. Count 5 tenths.

Pros
  • Easy to attach by snapping onto the end of an anvil or spindle allowing two attachments to be used together
Cons
  • Very expensive

Very handy accessory for Starrett Micrometer

The Starrett Micrometer Attachment is the perfect accessory as it is a lot cheaper (<$12) than buying a micrometer with a spherical or interchangeable anvil. I find it particularly useful when I need to measure the thickness of curved features like bearing shells and tube walls. This ball mount is fairly easy to install as it simply slides over the flat anvil on the micrometer body and is held firmly in place with a collet. The only downside is that the user has to remember to subtract the…

Pros
  • Diameter, .200" of each ball used, must be subtracted from micrometer reading
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Easy to use and well made

I've had several of these but they appear to be that legs grow quite often. They are well made, steel and if you get the right size they fit just great and won't fall or slide off the anvil when in use. I recently bought a Fowler microphone imported from China. (which is actually a great tool.) and needed a bullet for it as I've mostly used large anvil Starrett models my whole life. This size is .256 so I figured this .250 would most likely fit because they have some safety margin. . Well, it's

Pros
  • Fits #216, 231, 436.1, 733, 734, 1212 and 1230 microns, anvil and .250" spindle
Cons
  • Available in white only
