They work well when the camera is in a fairly vertical position. If you have to bend your neck at a significant angle (e.g. 90 degrees), it might not hold up well to anything other than a lightweight webcam, and the base might be unstable. For most people, this isn't a problem, just something to be aware of depending on your use case. In my case, I have a ring light and webcam, and my neck is bent 90 degrees, so this is almost a worst-case scenario. Before I bought it, I knew I had to do a little more work. I added a weight (7.5 pounds free weight) to the base that stabilized it and found that the neck tended to sag a bit. For the neck, after I got it in the right position, I used shrink tubing to make it even tighter. I'm very happy with it as I'm not using it exactly as it was intended but was still able to get it to work fine.
