Review on 🔦 MG1000-450B: American Designed RV Security 12V Motion Sensor LED Porch Flood Light with Battery Monitoring Sensor and EMI Suppression by Patrick Myers

I got this because I wanted to add some outdoor lighting to my garden shed. There are very few 12V flashlights out there that have: good reviews, genuine support if someone answers a question, motion detection, NO steady/dusk/dawn light, and comes in a small package. This item seems to meet all the required specs listed above, so I was keen to try it. My shed is mains powered in the sense that I have a 20 watt solar panel, a solar controller and about 6 UPS batteries that power the internal LED strips I have (those from the on/off/dimmer switch of the mobile home can be controlled). I wanted to put this light on the outside so the lights would come on when I went to the barn at night and if the dogs were in the back yard when they passed the barn they would turn on and we could see them (the yard). is fenced). in). I've added an external weatherproof on/off switch so I can leave the internal master switch on, and then if I want to manually turn off one or both lights, or turn on a light and activate a motion, I can do that. (Note that when you remove the outer lens there is a small hole in the center of the board behind which is a small button that toggles modes when pressed, but this would only be useful if you don't have access to a wired one PSU. and you wanted to change the mode, otherwise you wouldn't be able to use that little momentary button) I also painted the outer case to match the color of the barn. A black and white case would look bad and stand out more, so I wanted it to be as solid as possible. (Probably voided warranty, but oh well) They're bright. In fact, I was very surprised at how bright ONE unit glows when both units are on. I was expecting a dim, flashlight-like light, so I'm pleasantly surprised at how bright the light is. It is pure white light, without a bluish-yellow tint. Despite all the advantages, let's look at the possibilities. The single biggest issue I see is the lack of a rear outer seal. Whatever you install it should be sealant/silicone which is fine but if or when you need to remove the unit there could be PITA...I highly recommend the manufacturer develop a rear rubber seal...it There's already a cut-out area on the back, so it looks like it should be there, and the fact that it's not there is annoying. I sealed everything around it in my shed to keep water out, but sealing around the square motion sensor bar at the bottom was a bit of a chore. But at this price point, rear padding should be included. Another minor annoyance is the lens seal. I'm not sure if the plastic piece actually forms a watertight seal so time will tell, but I had to put 4 small drops of RTV on the seal to keep it in the groove. It was frustrating to be in the air trying to balance the washer in the groove while trying to fit the lens... the washer kept falling off. It's all right now, but keep that in mind. Finally, the size, yes it's small... not bad overall. However, the use of LEDs is not used with such a large package. Either shrink the case by about an inch or make the LED panel bigger. In this case I really feel that a lot of space in the fixture is wasted. Hopefully future versions of this will take note of the LED panel and maximize it and put more LEDs there. (Actually this would be preferable, I would like to see more LEDs in the future) I didn't go for blinking LEDs. At night the blue/green LED is bright. The good thing is when I'm on deck I can see it but it can be distracting. Also, part of me doesn't like it just because it's energy being consumed (albeit in small amounts, solar people need to be mindful of where the parasitic drains are). can turn off / stay on / idle time. I think it would be extremely useful for "customization", but I think it can't all be perfect. I really like this device so I'm only deducting one star for the above three things. I will update in a year to see how these lights perform as they will be outside (despite being covered by a roof) they will still be exposed to rain, snow, wind and lots of sun. The motion sensor picks me up when I'm at our fire which is at least 25ft from the barn and it's amazing! I actually have to turn the setting down a bit so they don't keep turning on when we're chatting. I have attached photos showing them. Hope this helps someone with their project! EDIT: Added pictures when it gets dark. You are bright! You can see it from the street! EDIT 2: 7/19/2017 I've had this installed in a barn for 9 months. You still go strong. Light up the backyard! Since we have a maple tree right in front of the barn and I have yet to trim some of the lower branches, when it gets really windy the branches will trigger the motion sensor and the lights will turn on/off/on. etc.
