I got my dead battery back. A little. A few hours until the trip :).

So I took this to test and see if I can get my old car's dead battery back that hasn't been driven in about 3 years. Setting up this charger was very easy, just plug the cables into the appropriate battery terminals and the power cord into a 110v socket from below. The home screen will light up and remind you to remove the battery before you press the REPAIR hotkey, the big yellow button in the middle of the keyboard. Below this key are the UP/DOWN arrow keys, ESC and Enter keys. Very intuitive to use, press Enter to enter menu mode, ESC to return and up/down arrow keys to navigate through menu items. A manual or manual is included, but you have to read between the lines here and there :). Anyway, below is my brief description of each feature in case you fancy reading :).1. Test - Selecting this option performs a quick test that shows the health or status of your battery (Battery Good, Charging Good, Replace, Charging Poor, and Charge Repeat Test). Remember that you must first select the option to tell the charger whether the battery is automotive or non-vehicle, then you must specify the battery type (regular flood, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral or Gel) and finally select the battery system (CCA, BCI, CAE). For my car and most older cars like mine the battery type is probably a regular flooded one. So here are my tips: 1. Outside the car, 2. Regularly flooded, and 3. CCA - Cold Crank Amplifier. The result I'm getting so far is a charge recheck, which means my battery isn't stable and needs to be charged and checked again. So that led me to the next step below.2. battery repair. Since my battery has been dead for a long time I decided to go with this option and see if this charger can fix the battery and get the car to at least start. After 6 hours of repairing and charging at the same time I can see the battery coming back to life :) but not quite yet. It has enough power to light up the dashboard right now. Again, it is very important to remove the battery from the vehicle before attempting to run the REPAIR function again. With this option, the LED display shows a timer and a battery charging symbol. Alternatively, you can also use the large REPAIR button mentioned above. The difference is that in this mode, instead of a timer, you see voltages, amps, and battery percentages on the screen. Basically it's just a matter of doing the same thing and charging the battery during the repair process.3. Charge the battery. This step is a simple battery charge without the pulse recovery feature. The amperage slowly decreases when the battery is full, so you don't have to worry about overcharging.4. Summary - If you select this option, the results of the last test or battery test are displayed. You can view it or delete it from memory.5. Settings - here you can set language, device test, battery charging time (12 hours by default and up to 99 hours) and screen contrast, as well as device information or device version. All in all, this is a great charger. Have on hand in case you need to check or service your car's batteries or repair dead batteries. I suspect part of the reason mine was taking a little longer to charge was that I forgot to first clean the oxidation on my dead battery's terminals since it hadn't been used for a long time. So, after cleaning with sandpaper, the charger contacts got better and the result was obviously faster. I'll let it charge for a few more hours and see if I can get a better result. But so far so good and looks very promising. Fingers crossed :). Hope that helps :)!
