Helps a little, the honey aroma is soft and the polish takes on a subtle satin finish. I bought this to finish off a 2 year old wooden camping mug and prefer something with wax rather than just painting with olive oil like the mug maker recommends. I've included a photo to show the subtle differences, but the mug before felt very dry, slightly rough to the touch, and after two coats of paste (sparingly) applied and polished with an hour between, the mug is plenty nicer to handle. . I'll end up applying 1 or 2 more coats but it's already pretty nice after 2. It is easy to apply, especially with warm hands and applying the paste with a thin cloth.
