First of all, I'm not a professional photographer and I can't justify spending thousands of dollars on a camera. In six months I created a spreadsheet of specs for nearly 60 different cameras. I knew Nikon was going to release their P1000 camera and I was looking forward to it. But at almost $1,000, I had a hard time justifying it. So I decided on the Minolta MN35Z. It replaces my 2009 Canon SX20IS. I have just returned from a Mediterranean cruise where I visited the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. I took almost 1000 pictures. Outdoors and in good light, it's easy to get good shots with almost any camera. But indoors, like the museum and basilica, it's harder, as you'd expect. The basilica is so big that lightning cannot reach far. But I got good shots if I held the camera still very carefully. In low light, the camera wants to take longer exposure times, so any movement blurs the image. I have a tripod, but in a crowded room and with so many photos, it just wasn't practical to take with me. It would definitely help. This is a lightweight camera and the menu system is easy to use. For $195 this is a good camera. Yes, I wish I had the features of the Nikon P1000 and I might get one someday, but it was a good choice for going on vacation and walking a lot. If you're looking for less than $500, you need to take a closer look. Take a few hundred shots before experimenting with manual and automatic settings. Experiment with different exposure times and multiple scene options.
