They were recommended by my art teacher and I can understand why. These pens have pigments that dissolve completely when wetted with water. If you want to create a "blur", simply wet your brush and lightly stroke over the area you want to blur. or you can dip a pencil in water for nice smooth lines (or you can just use it as is). They are very versatile and this set includes a wide range of hardnesses (this set includes an HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B each, plus a size 6 round watercolor brush). They sharpen very well, no breakage. These pens will forever remain in my collection. The drawing you see was done with these Faber Castell pencils + watercolor pencils for a splash of red.
