Review on πŸ’‘ DR-55 Low Profile Right Angled Ratchet Screwdriver: Enhanced Engineering Precision by David Golden

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good tool but most valuable part is the hex bits

Tried to find a cross drive with very little play to replace the window drive in a wooden window. Someone complained about the plastic parts - all supporting and stressed parts are steel. Only the seal and contact parts are made of plastic. Does not affect reliability. The vertical distance from the tip of the bit to the tip of the ratchet is 13/16 inches. Better than others though. For people looking for a narrow gap drive, it's even more helpful that the included hex bits are only 11/16" long - every other hex bit I can find is at least an inch long. Thus, these bits offer a ratchet solution with minimal play. And when used with a Husky narrow-backlash ratchet hex drive (Husky part number 66604), the vertical backlash is reduced to 11/16. Together they make a great tool (the Husky drive comes with 1" hex bits - Husky should be aware of this). Conversely, the Husky's head diameter is smaller, which can be very useful in some places with very limited lateral clearance. (The head diameter of this device is 3/4 inch while the Husky is only 9/16 inch). Unfortunately it is still too high to remove my stretcher. The only solution is offset ratchetless Nieko and Anex bits with low play, also available in Revain (3/8 inch play only). Luckily they work - just without the ratchet. This repair will take some time ;-(

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
