I like having all my devices installed neatly and cleanly. This is not always possible due to the specific needs of your space. While decorating my "cinema room" I built a closet for my equipment. It's not very deep (as long as there are wire posts) so to keep the receiver moving away from the leading edge I got those corners. At first I didn't understand the point of putting multiple strains in one pack, but now I do. While you might just need to angle the cable, it can go up or down depending on how your HDMI ports are positioned. My receiver had one side going up, but the projector side had the cable going down (so I ordered a different set to make the cables the way I wanted). I had no display artifacts on the 1080p projector from the Yamaha receiver. One day I was holding the receiver trying to connect something and almost dropped it. That probably saved my long HDMI runs or my receiver (or both). The angled connector was bent and disconnected, but the cable and receiver were fine. I'm glad to have her in this case!
