I've been listening to this music for a long time today. I was 19 when I discovered this in 1982 and it's the only Curved Air album I've ever heard. I'm so happy to see it's available on CD now and I'll order it as soon as I've finished this comment. It's so rooted in that era that it can be hit or miss for young people, but on the other hand it's such strong music. it can still fail to some extent after 35 years of musical development, as it did to me after 10 years of musical development when I first heard it. As for her voice, yes, when I first heard her, I compared everything to the main production values, and she struck me as odd and rather weak. Но музыкальная виртуозность и более кинетические треки, такие как "Everdance" (почти уверен, что он так и называется, даже несмотря на то, что Revain указал его как "Everydance") зацепили меня достаточно долго, чтобы позволить альбому проиграть several times. The song on the other side of this album that lured me into playing this side was "Bright Summer's Day '68" which has previously been described here as goofy, but to me it was a wonderful blend of upbeat blues music with a light one ... . hearty relaxed way of singing about all sorts of horrible things that happen with cool piercing filtered speech etc. Real joy. Backstreet Luv broods and brings you down to street level musically, although it's progressive and not derivative. Her voice is alternatively eerie and sort of a sex lecturer unison. But after listening to the whole album a few times, the other songs really got under my skin and stuck in my head, and a big part of that was her voice. Of course, I've been exposed to a whole range of musical expressions since then, of which bands like Jethro Tull and Genesis are just a small fraction. On the other hand, Sonia Christina had a wonderfully quirky, jazzy, husky, sexy, slightly disjointed performance that suits this style of music perfectly. It would be just awful if someone with more technique sang those parts. Even the "Slow song", which I often skipped at first (because I didn't pay enough attention to a SLOW song at the age of 19), meandered. Deep in my subconscious, and even now years later, despite not having heard that record in several decades, I still think the dreamy, soaring "Jumbo" is one of the most haunting, subtle, emotionally haunting, but at the same time fragments of time separation that I have ever heard. ever heard, and nothing has ever come as close to conveying a sense of reflection and ambivalence, travel weariness and love of home on a long flight as this song. That's great.
