These plastic bypass valves are far superior to stainless steel valves. NPT connection. This is much better than a female connection as it eliminates the need for a male to male hex nipple. These hex nipples are notoriously difficult to seal on a stainless steel bypass body as the threads on both are imperfect so sealing has proven very difficult even with a large number of different thread bands. With a nipple fitting instead, you will completely seal one leak and seal the other much more easily, since the water heater's flexible hoses have rubber grommets to ensure a secure seal. Second, they allow a much larger volume to flow through the system. The stainless steel versions of the bypass literally have a 1/8" hole on either side of the bypass to allow water to flow due to the incredibly stupid design of the valve and body. flow through, even with a 1" bypass. With this plastic bypass, the inner port has a 3/4" round hole that allows water to flow through at high speed. This is great for the overall performance of the system! no limitation, but 3/4" beats 1/8" every day. The only problem I had with one of these was that the flexible stainless steel hose started kinking and stripping the threads on one of the male NPT fittings. Luckily i was able to keep scrolling and keep it scrolling properly so be careful when you start your threads next time i was more careful and had no problems with crosstrading generally excellent!
