Fleck COMINHKR047408 FBA_60049 Replacement Bypass Review

My plumber did not install a bypass or provide a way to remove my softener. I thought I might have a plumbing project, but this allowed me to quickly and inexpensively remove and reinstall for maintenance. At first I was confused about installing the skin without removing the water softener turbine metering device. However, it is easy to swap and repair.

1 1/2 years. It was not in the original packaging but all the original numbers are stamped on the plastic. Works well. My original part lasted 6 years, I turned it off several times a year when it was freezing outside. It can be rebuilt, but a set of o-rings will cost the same. You can ADD 2 check valves before this part and never use this bypass valve.

Good product, comes with o-rings/seals needed for connection with clamp (sold separately) and Fleck 5600 SXT valve. The quality is good and well made, don't buy a metal bypass valve, that's my opinion. The bypass knobs are one piece and require pliers to turn them into the bypass position, but I think that's a good thing considering the bypass valve is manufactured to tight tolerances.

I bought two of these which fit perfectly and didn't leak the first time. First I tried replacing the o-rings on the old bypass valves but even with silicone grease I wasted my time. I wanted to confirm that they would fit control valves and clamps but couldn't find the dimensions between the two ports so I took a chance and assumed it might be the standard spacing. This is an exact replacement for the leaking bypass valve on my Fleck softener valve. Installation took 10 minutes including shutting off the water in my system and draining the connecting lines. These plastic bypass valves are far superior to stainless steel valves. NPT connection. This is much better than a female connection as it eliminates the need for a male to male hex nipple. These hex nipples are notoriously difficult to seal on a stainless steel bypass body as the threads on both are imperfect so sealing has proven very difficult even with a large number of different thread bands.
