Review on Coghlan's Mapping Compass by Randy Brimmer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple compass, inexpensive but accurate and reliable.

Was looking for a pair of inexpensive compasses to teach children to orienteer. I bought two. When I placed the order I was concerned that they might be of poor quality or sloppily assembled. However, everything looks and feels solid and precise. The dial turns smoothly - not too loose and not too tight. The arrow moves smoothly to find magnetic north. This version does not have a declination adjustment to compensate for the difference between True North and Magnetic North. That's a nice feature for a compass, but I couldn't find it at this price point. Conclusion: With a topographical map I would completely rely on it to find its way around the country.
