The breaking in is extremely painful. This is the second pair of Thorogoods I've bought. My first pair was 8.5 and the burn-in, which lasted about 3 weeks, was extremely painful in the medial wedge area of the left foot. I have a wide foot, maybe that's because of the pain. If you can survive the tough run-in, the boots themselves are very comfortable. One of the most comfortable shoes/boots I've ever had. I bought a size 9 pair for my brother and he has complained about the same problem and his feet are not as wide as mine. I've been kicking a shovel in these boots for about 6 months. They held up great. Once broken in, they are incredibly comfortable and durable. Tongue keeps debris out which is ideal for construction/earth work. The sole has been chewed up from extensive digging and shoveling, but I feel like they have a lot of life in them. Tie your shoelaces twice or they will unravel. Overall great comfort, solid feel and great American craftsmanship. but the interruption of my period and the pain that comes with it may put me off buying again.
